2nd Shift Refrigeration Technician Level 4

Essential Functions of Role:

This is “hands on” non-production operation role.

Meeting USDA, HACCP, GMFP, and Company standards, and under the supervision of the Facilities Maintenance and Refrigeration Manager, the functions of this role are to be responsible for setting example for other technicians through training and coaching. 

Responsible for performing (or overseeing), preventative maintenance, emergency repairs, rebuilds and projects on all plant refrigeration, utility and facility equipment in a safe and efficient manner. 

Responding to calls in a professional, safe, and timely manner. (Down equipment takes priority over all other responsibilities). Track parts usage and order replacement parts as needed within specified budget. Manage contracted projects from start to finish. Assist Refrigeration Specialists as required. Boiler operation and maintenance. Participation in Process Safety Management (PSM).

Qualifications:
 Service of industrial ammonia refrigeration and boiler systems 
 · Experience required –

5 yrs. Industrial refrigeration preferred, related industrial mechanical experience may be considered. 5 yrs. Industrial boiler operation/maintenance preferred, related industrial mechanical experience may be considered. Perform scheduled maintenance, service and maintain screw compressors. Have experience with set-up and maintenance of a PSM program. Electrical troubleshooting with PLC and VFD experience. Must have good verbal and written communication skills and basic computer skills. Must be able to wear personal protective equipment as required for job role: Protective Eye Wear, ear plugs, hard hart, hair net, protective coat (clothing protector) and impervious boots.

Must be able to physically perform the essential functions of the role as outlined.

Must be able to twist, bend, reach, and sit for 8 hours or the duration of the shift, in a wet cold environment. Must be able to get underneath or mount equipment ranging from below grade (below floor level) up to 17 feet and in a confined space of 2’x 2’or larger to perform repairs and inspections. Must be able to reach heights of 17’ to repair & / or inspect equipment. Must be able to physically perform continuous equipment repairs in a wet slippery environment for up to 10-12 hours per day. Must be able to physically perform equipment repairs in a slippery/uneven environment which includes but is not limited to slopped flooring, pitched flooring, steps throughout work areas, etc. Must be able to lift, tighten (“tork”) equipment up to approximately 70 pounds. Must be able to safely & efficiently make machine repairs in a seriously demanding, challenging, fast-paced, high pressure and tense atmosphere.

Mechanical Uptime, safety performance, Self-improvement, Assist in Development of Other Departmental Employees, Observe and test system operation using gauges and instruments. Test lines, insulation, components, and connections for leaks. Keep records of repairs and replacements made and causes of malfunctions. Adjust valves according to specifications and charge system with proper type of refrigerant by pumping the specified gas or fluid into the system. Install wiring to connect components to an electric power source. Organizing, Planning, and Prioritizing Work - Developing specific goals and plans to prioritize, organize, and accomplish your work. Schedule work with customers and initiate work orders, purchase requisitions and orders from stock. Repairing and Maintaining Mechanical Equipment - Servicing, repairing, adjusting, and testing machines, devices, moving parts, and equipment that operate primarily on the basis of mechanical (not electronic) principles.
