Position Summary
We are seeking a Factory Technical Support Technician (HVAC) to provide technical support for the manufacturing, testing, troubleshooting, and field application of commercial HVAC equipment. This position serves as a key technical resource for production, quality, engineering, service, and customers, helping identify and resolve HVAC-related issues and ensuring equipment meets performance and quality requirements.
The ideal candidate has hands-on experience with commercial HVAC systems, strong troubleshooting skills, and the ability to communicate technical information clearly in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide technical support to manufacturing and production teams for commercial HVAC equipment and systems.
- Troubleshoot HVAC equipment, controls, electrical systems, refrigeration circuits, airflow, and mechanical components.
- Diagnose equipment issues using schematics, wiring diagrams, technical documentation, diagnostic tools, and test equipment.
- Support factory testing, startup, commissioning, and performance verification of HVAC units.
- Assist production personnel with technical questions, assembly issues, and equipment troubleshooting.
- Investigate equipment failures and determine root causes, recommending corrective actions.
- Work closely with engineering, quality, manufacturing, and service teams to resolve technical issues.
- Assist with the interpretation and application of HVAC specifications, drawings, manuals, and installation requirements.
- Provide technical guidance on refrigeration systems, compressors, motors, fans, dampers, valves, sensors, controls, and electrical components.
- Support troubleshooting of HVAC controls, including thermostats, sensors, relays, VFDs, PLCs, and building automation interfaces.
- Document technical issues, troubleshooting results, corrective actions, and equipment performance.
- Assist with developing and updating troubleshooting procedures, work instructions, service documentation, and technical training materials.
- Identify recurring manufacturing or field issues and communicate trends to engineering and quality teams.
- Support field service personnel and customers with technical questions when required.
- Participate in product improvement initiatives and provide practical feedback from factory testing and troubleshooting.
- Maintain a safe, organized, and professional work environment in accordance with company policies and OSHA requirements.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required; technical degree, HVAC certification, or trade-school education preferred.
- 3+ years of hands-on HVAC experience, preferably with commercial or industrial equipment.
- Strong understanding of commercial HVAC systems and refrigeration fundamentals.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, mechanical drawings, and HVAC documentation.
- Experience troubleshooting electrical and mechanical HVAC components.
- Familiarity with refrigeration charging, evacuation, pressure testing, and system diagnostics.
- Knowledge of HVAC controls and basic building automation systems preferred.
- Strong computer skills and ability to use technical documentation and diagnostic software.
- Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively with production employees, engineers, technicians, service personnel, and customers.
- Ability to work independently while also functioning effectively as part of a cross-functional team.
