HVAC Controls Technician, Plant Facilities Department, Days, Baptist Medical Center Clay.

The HVAC Controls Technician will be responsible for the installation, programming, troubleshooting, calibration, and maintenance of HVAC control and building automation systems across Baptist Health facilities. This role helps ensure reliable operation, energy efficiency, and appropriate temperature, humidity, airflow, and environmental conditions throughout patient care, clinical, and administrative areas.

The HVAC Controls Technician will diagnose system issues, respond to alarms, perform preventive maintenance, test and calibrate controls and sensors, and make necessary repairs or adjustments to minimize equipment downtime. This position will collaborate with Plant Facilities team members, engineers, contractors, and vendors on system upgrades, equipment replacements, and facility projects.

This role is critical to maintaining safe, comfortable, and reliable healthcare environments while supporting the continuous operation of Baptist Health facilities and the delivery of patient care. This position may be called upon to perform other duties and responsibilities outside the normal job classification yet still within the department. Also includes weekend scheduling, on-call rotation, alternate shift assignments or overtime as required.

HVAC Controls Technician you will be responsible for:

  • Performs corrective and preventative maintenance of HVAC equipment, including air handling units, chillers, refrigeration equipment, boilers, exhaust fans, Variable Air Volume (VAV) systems, pneumatic and digital controls with building automation systems, and chemical treatment.
  •  Primary responsibilities will be HVAC but will also be given general maintenance duties as needed. Duties also may include weekend scheduling, on-call responsibilities, alternate shift assignments, or overtime as required.
  • Position may be asked to perform duties outside the normal job classification yet typically remain within the department.
  • Install, program, and maintain HVAC control systems, including building automation systems (BAS).
  • Maintain detailed documentation of service activities and system configurations.
  • Provide training and support to staff on proper system usage.

 Experience

  • 2+ years of HVAC controls, building automation, or commercial HVAC experience preferred
  • Experience troubleshooting, maintaining, and repairing HVAC control systems and associated equipment
  • Experience with building automation systems (BAS), controllers, sensors, actuators, and thermostats
  • Working knowledge of electrical, mechanical, and HVAC systems
  • Ability to independently diagnose system issues and determine appropriate repairs, adjustments, or corrective actions

Education/Certifications

  • High School Diploma
  • EPA Refrigeration Certification
