Canyon Air Systems, a division of Andersen Commercial Plumbing recognized as Southern California's Top Service Commercial Companies, is currently seeking an HVAC Estimator.
Position Summary
The HVAC Estimator / Assistant Project Manager supports both the preconstruction and project management teams by preparing accurate cost estimates, coordinating project activities, and assisting with the successful execution of HVAC and mechanical construction projects. This role is responsible for reviewing plans and specifications, developing quantity takeoffs, preparing proposals, and supporting project managers from bid through project closeout.
The ideal candidate has a strong understanding of HVAC systems, excellent organizational skills, and the ability to coordinate with clients, subcontractors, vendors, and field personnel to help deliver projects on schedule and within budget. Experience with multifamily and commercial projects is highly preferred.
Key Responsibilities
Prepare detailed estimates for HVAC and mechanical systems, including equipment, ductwork, piping, controls, and related materials.
Review construction drawings, specifications, and project documents to perform accurate quantity takeoffs and cost analyses.
Develop conceptual, budgetary, and final estimates/ proposals for multifamily, commercial projects, mixed-use and residential projects
Solicit, evaluate, and level subcontractor and supplier quotations to ensure complete scope coverage and competitive pricing.
Assist in preparing bid proposals, budgets, scope summaries, and value engineering recommendations.
Support Project Managers with project planning, scheduling, procurement, submittals, RFIs, change orders, and project documentation.
Coordinate with project managers , field supervisors, vendors, and clients to ensure project scope, pricing, and constructability are aligned.
Track estimate revisions, contract changes, and project costs while maintaining organized project records.
Participate in job walks, pre-bid meetings, project turnover meetings, and site coordination visits as required.
Assist with account management by maintaining strong relationships with general contractors, owners, suppliers, and subcontractors.
Maintain estimating databases, historical pricing, labor productivity information, and current material pricing.
Support project execution through closeout by assisting with documentation, contract administration, and final project reconciliation.
Qualifications
4+ years of experience in HVAC/mechanical estimating, project coordination, or assistant project management.
Experience working for a mechanical contractor or HVAC construction company.
Strong knowledge of HVAC systems, equipment selection, duct distribution, piping, controls, and mechanical construction practices.
Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and mechanical plans.
Experience preparing quantity takeoffs, cost estimates, and bid proposals.
Strong communication, organizational, and time management skills.
Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Procore, especially Excel, and estimating software such as Bluebeam, Trimble, or similar platforms.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with multifamily, commercial, single family and/or mixed-use HVAC construction projects.
Familiarity with integrated HVAC/mechanical systems
Experience supporting project managers through all phases of construction, from estimating and procurement through project closeout.
Knowledge of Southern California building codes and industry standards.
Construction Management and/or Mechanical Engineering certifications or degree a + but not required.
Compensation and Benefits
· Salary Range: $90,000 – $120,000, depending on experience
