Position Overview:

The HVAC Facilities Mechanic is responsible for the inspection, maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, and preventive maintenance of all HVAC and refrigeration equipment throughout a large-scale manufacturing facility. This position serves as the primary technical resource for approximately 50 HVAC and refrigeration systems, including rooftop package units up to 25 tons, ensuring safe, reliable, and efficient operation to support continuous manufacturing.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform all preventive maintenance on approximately 50 HVAC and refrigeration systems.
  • Inspect, diagnose, repair, and maintain rooftop package units up to 25 tons, split systems, air handlers, make-up air units, exhaust systems, and refrigeration equipment.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, refrigeration, and control system failures.
  • Maintain compressors, condensers, evaporators, expansion valves, motors, fans, belts, bearings, pumps, dampers, filters, and associated components.
  • Recover, evacuate, charge, and test refrigerant systems in compliance with EPA regulations.
  • Maintain HVAC controls, thermostats, sensors, and building automation interfaces.
  • Respond to emergency equipment failures and restore systems to minimize production downtime.
  • Complete work orders and preventive maintenance documentation using the CMMS.
  • Recommend equipment repairs, upgrades, and replacement based on condition and lifecycle.
  • Coordinate maintenance activities with production to minimize operational impact.
  • Maintain inventory of HVAC parts, refrigerants, and maintenance supplies.
  • Follow all OSHA, EPA, and company safety requirements.

 

HVAC Responsibilities:

  • Installs new HVAC units in commercial, or industrial buildings.
  • Installs ductwork and thermostats to control HVAC system.
  • Performs routine maintenance on HVAC systems to ensure they operate properly.
  • Inspects and troubleshoots problems with existing HVAC units.
  • Installs replacement parts on existing HVAC units.
  • Maintains inventory of replacement parts and orders replacements.
  • Complies with company and industry safety standards.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 7-10 years of Maintenance Experience. Including methods, practices and equipment used in facilities management and activities, including a variety of building trades work.
  • High School Graduate required. College or Trade School preferred.
  • Electrical, Mechanical, Welding, Electro-Mechanical and equipment training, a plus.
  • Knowledge of tools and equipment used in building maintenance, reconstruction and repair work.
  • Experience with a virtual work order and spare parts management system preferred.
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Task oriented excellent organizational skills, ability to prioritize workload.
  • Enthusiastic attitude, cooperative team player, adaptable to new or changing circumstances, professional demeanor, self-motivated, creative and innovative.

 

Physical requirements and work environment:

  • Must be able to lift 70 lbs
  • Must be able to sustain physical work for 8+ hours on a standard 3 shift operation or 12+ hours per day on 24/7 operation. Also includes the following:
    • Standing
    • Reaching and pulling
    • Sight
    • Walking through shop
    • Bending, climbing and crouching.
  • Office environment is of moderate noise level.
  • Shop noise levels are such that protective ear-coverings are recommended.
  • Sometimes subject to external weather conditions.
  • Short notice, overtime demand according to equipment or facility breakdowns.
  • Repair work on heavy equipment often in a seated or standing position.
  • Grease, oil, water exposure.
