The HVAC Installer Helper assists Lead Installers with the installation, replacement, and startup of residential heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems. This role is ideal for someone looking to build a career in the HVAC industry while learning proper installation techniques, safety procedures, and customer service skills.
Essential Responsibilities
- Assist with the installation of residential HVAC systems, including air conditioners, furnaces, heat pumps, air handlers, mini-splits, thermostats, and indoor air quality products.
- Load, unload, and transport equipment, materials, and tools to and from job sites.
- Remove and dispose of old HVAC equipment and materials safely.
- Assist in installing ductwork, refrigerant lines, drain lines, electrical components, and ventilation systems.
- Support system startup, testing, and basic commissioning procedures.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe job site throughout each installation.
- Follow manufacturer specifications, company standards, and local building codes.
- Operate hand tools and power tools safely and properly.
- Maintain inventory of installation materials and assist with stocking company vehicles.
- Complete basic paperwork and mobile documentation as required.
- Provide courteous and professional customer service while in customers' homes.
- Follow all OSHA and company safety policies and procedures.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED preferred.
- 1-3 years of previous HVAC, plumbing, electrical, or mechanical experience preferred but not required.
- Mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn.
- Ability to follow instructions and work effectively as part of a team.
- Strong work ethic, reliability, and positive attitude.
- Good communication and customer service skills.
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record preferred.
- EPA Section 608 Certification is a plus or willingness to obtain.
Preferred Skills
- Familiarity with basic hand and power tools.
- Basic understanding of HVAC systems and installation practices.
- Ability to read tape measures and follow installation instructions.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift and carry up to 75 pounds.
- Ability to climb ladders, work in attics, crawl spaces, rooftops, and confined spaces.
- Ability to stand, kneel, bend, squat, and work overhead for extended periods.
- Ability to work in varying weather conditions, including heat and cold.
