Job Title: Commercial HVAC Service Technician

This Is a Commercial-Only Position
Tempe Mechanical is a commercial Mechanical & Plumbing contractor - we do not perform residential work. This role requires verifiable commercial HVAC service experience. If your background is primarily residential split systems and package units on rooftops of homes, this is not the right fit. We serve commercial, healthcare, municipal, and institutional clients across the Greater Phoenix Valley. Our service department runs on ServiceTrade, holds technicians to a real documentation standard, and backs them with a Service Manager who owns dispatch, scope clarity, and job readiness - so you can focus on the work.
The Role
You'll be a lead diagnostic technician on complex commercial equipment. This is a role for a technician who can walk onto a site cold, pull up the sequence of operations, and work a problem to root cause - not a parts-changer role.
You will:
- Diagnose, repair, and maintain commercial HVAC systems including VRF/VRV systems, water source heat pumps, commercial split systems, RTUs, chillers, boilers, and hydronic systems
- Make repair-vs-replace recommendations backed by data and communicate them clearly to facility engineers, property managers, and general contractors
- Identify deficiencies and pull-through opportunities on every call and document them same-day in ServiceTrade with photos and billable-quality notes
- Interpret wiring diagrams, controls sequences, and mechanical drawings
- Mentor junior technicians on VRF and advanced diagnostics
- Run after-hours and emergency calls on rotation
- Maintain real-time time, material, and documentation entries in ServiceTrade via mobile app
Required Qualifications - Non-Negotiable
- 5+ years of commercial HVAC service experience(commercial service, not new construction install and not residential)
- Proficiency diagnosing and servicing VRF systems(Daikin, Mitsubishi, LG, or equivalent) - factory certification strongly preferred
- Hands-on experience with water source heat pump systemsand associated loop equipment
- Proven troubleshooting ability on commercial split systems, RTUs, and building HVAC equipment
- Ability to read and interpret commercial wiring diagrams, controls drawings, and blueprints
- EPA Universal Certification
- Valid driver's license with insurable driving record
- Professional communication skills with commercial clients and facility staff
- Legally authorized to work in the United States
Preferred Qualifications
- Chiller and boiler service experience
- Hydronic system and pump service experience
- Building automation / controls familiarity
- Experience training or leading other technicians
- ServiceTrade or comparable field service software experience
Pay
$38 – $56 per hour including performance-based incentive bonuses. Final rate is set based on demonstrated commercial experience and equipment proficiency, verified in a technical interview. Top-of-range candidates should expect a technical evaluation covering VRF, WSHP, and commercial diagnostics.
