Job Purpose

The Senior Project Engineer is responsible for leading and managing complex engineering projects, ensuring deliverables meet quality standards, timelines, and budget requirements. This role combines technical expertise, project oversight, and team leadership to support successful project execution and client satisfaction.
 

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring timely delivery and adherence to budget and scope. 
  • Lead and support a team of engineers, consultants, and technical staff. 
  • Oversee design development, plan preparation, specifications, and project execution. 
  • Review engineering documents, reports, and plans for accuracy and completeness. 
  • Coordinate with internal teams, clients, and external stakeholders to ensure project success. 
  • Monitor project progress, identify risks, and implement solutions as needed. 
  • Support project budgeting, scheduling, and resource allocation. 
  • Participate in field activities such as site visits, inspections, and data collection as needed. 
  • Develop and maintain strong client relationships and support business development efforts. 
  • Contribute to process improvements and development of internal standards and procedures. 
  • Mentor and guide junior staff, supporting their technical and professional growth.

Requirements

Professional Qualifications

  • Bachelor's/Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field from an accredited college or university, or documented combination of education and professional experience in related engineering field.
  • Active Florida Professional Engineer (P.E.) license via examination or active registration in another state with the ability to reciprocate to Florida within six months of beginning employment.
  • Valid contractor license (building, mechanical, electrical, plumbing) preferred.
  • Valid State of Florida Driver's License and reliable transportation required.

Minimum Experience

  • 7+ years of pre-or-post degree work experience, which must have involved construction, design, inspection or estimating, and budgeting.
  • Strong background in Mechanical (HVAC Systems), with knowledge in plumbing and fire protection systems design.
  • Proficient in writing technical reports and applying mechanical codes.
  • Knowledge of relevant mechanical codes and standards.
  • Strong project coordination and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team setting.
  • Competent in conducting fieldwork and interpreting mechanical system data.

Skills and Abilities

  • English proficiency: Fluent (Speak, read, understand, interpret content and write).
  • Knowledgeable in all technical areas of design, construction and management, or having a demonstrated ability to achieve that level of proficiency in a short period of time.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, particularly in dealing with manpower and budgets.
  • Strong presentation skills.
  • Effectively mentors, trains and develops people within and/or outside his/her work group/team.
  • Creative problem solving.
  • Experience with Trane Trace/Carrier HAP load estimating preferred.

Physical Demands*

Necessary to perform the assigned duties safely and effectively:

  • Ability to sit with back at a 90-degree angle for up to 8 hours per day.
  • Ability to look at a computer for up to 8 hours per day.
  • Ability to stand upright for up to 8 hours per day.
  • Must be able to access and navigate job sites and construction areas (uneven terrain, exposure to outdoor weather elements)
  • Bending, stooping, squatting, kneeling, laying, crawling, and twisting required up to 30% of the time in this role.
  • Must be able to ride in a hoist and/or swing stage.
  • Must be able to lift, push, pull, and carry up to 50 pounds at times.
  • Must be able to use right and left foot for repetitive movements as in operating controls or levers.
  • Full dexterity of wrists and fingers required with repetitive motions.
  • Must be able to see near, in the distance, color, depth, and range.


*Safety equipment, including but not limited to hard hat, OSHA approved footwear, safety glasses and safety vests, is always required while performing job functions on active construction sites. Safety gloves, ear plugs, and safety harness will be issued when appropriate.*Riding in a hoist and/or in a swing stage to be performed under strict adherence to the OSHA standards. Climbing ladders and scaffolds to be performed under strict adherence to the OSHA standards.
