About Capitol Mechanical
Capitol Mechanical is an established, employee-owned commercial HVAC contractor based in Sun Prairie, Wisconsin. With approximately 75 employees, we offer the stability and resources of a larger mechanical contractor while maintaining the close-knit environment of a smaller company.
We take pride in taking care of our employees, providing opportunities for long-term growth, and creating an environment where experienced technicians are trusted to do their jobs.
Our HVAC service technicians average approximately eight years with the company, with many employees celebrating 15, 25, and even 30+ years of service.
As we continue to grow, we're looking for experienced Commercial HVAC Service Technicians to join our team serving commercial properties and multifamily buildings throughout the Greater Madison area.
About the Opportunity
This position is ideal for an experienced HVAC Service Technician who enjoys troubleshooting, working independently, and servicing a variety of commercial heating and cooling equipment.
Unlike companies that specialize in just one manufacturer or system, Capitol Mechanical services a wide range of equipment. You'll have the opportunity to expand your technical knowledge while working with an experienced team that provides support when needed.
Our service department handles a combination of preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, repairs, and occasional installation work.

- Troubleshoot electrical, mechanical, refrigeration, and hydronic system issues.
- Service equipment from a variety of manufacturers.
- Work independently in the field while coordinating with dispatch and the service team.
- Communicate professionally with building owners, property managers, and customers.
- Identify potential repairs, replacements, and equipment improvements.
- Complete service documentation using company-provided technology.
- Participate in a rotating after-hours on-call schedule.
- Assist and share technical knowledge with less experienced technicians when needed.
What We're Looking For
Required Qualifications:
- 3–5+ years of HVAC service experience, preferably in commercial or multifamily environments.
- Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic skills.
- Experience servicing commercial heating and cooling equipment.
- Ability to work independently and manage service calls.
- EPA 608 certification.
- Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
- Strong communication skills and a customer-focused attitude.
- Ability to pass required pre-employment background and drug screenings.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with commercial rooftop units, boilers, and hydronic systems.
- Familiarity with chillers, cooling towers, and water-source heat pumps.
- Experience servicing equipment from multiple manufacturers.
- OSHA safety training.
- Experience with electrical troubleshooting and HVAC controls.
