HVAC Technician I, Commercial

Position Overview:  

The HVAC Technician I supports preventive maintenance, service, repairs, and installation of commercial HVAC equipment at multiple client locations throughout the Richmond market. This is an opportunity for an early-career technician to build field experience while working alongside experienced technicians and developing the skills needed to troubleshoot and service commercial systems independently.\

Job Summary Details:

The HVAC Technician I performs assigned maintenance and service work on commercial HVAC and related mechanical systems in accordance with client expectations, service standards, safety requirements, and supervisor direction. The technician will travel directly to assigned client locations in a company vehicle, complete work orders and service documentation, and participate in an on-call rotation as assigned.

Pay:  30.00 - 36.00/hr.  The pay listed is the hourly range or the hourly rate for this position.   A specific offer will vary based on applicant’s experience, skills, abilities, geographic location, and alignment with market data.

Responsibilities

• Assist with preventive maintenance, inspections, cleaning, adjustments, and basic repairs on commercial HVAC equipment.

• Support service work on rooftop units, split systems, mini-splits, air handlers, pumps, motors, thermostats, and related controls.

• Use common HVAC tools and test instruments, including hand tools, refrigerant gauges, and a multimeter, under appropriate direction.

• Assist with diagnosing mechanical, electrical, and refrigeration-related issues and escalate complex problems when needed.

• Perform assigned filter changes, belt checks, lubrication, coil cleaning, and other routine maintenance activities.

• Assist with equipment installations, replacements, start-ups, warranty work, and emergency repairs.

• Accurately complete work orders, daily logs, parts usage, service notes, and other required documentation using the company work order system.

• Communicate professionally with customers, site contacts, supervisors, and team members.

• Follow all safety procedures, service instructions, client requirements, and applicable codes and standards.

• Attend monthly safety meetings, required training, and other branch meetings as scheduled.

• Participate in the assigned after-hours/on-call rotation.

• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Must be 18 years of age or older.

• Must possess a valid, unexpired driver’s license and maintain an acceptable driving record.

• EPA Section 608 certification

• HVAC trade school, vocational training, apprenticeship, military HVAC training, or equivalent hands-on experience.

• At least one year of HVAC experience

• Ability to work independently after training and follow written and verbal instructions.

• Ability to travel between multiple client locations and work occasional overtime or after-hours assignments as required.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience with commercial HVAC service or preventive maintenance.

• Exposure to RTUs, split systems, mini-splits, air handlers, pumps, motors, or basic HVAC controls.

• Virginia DPOR registration, license, or documented progress toward applicable credentials.

• Ability to use a computerized work order or service management system, such as Alliance or Astia.

• Strong customer service skills, initiative, dependability, and a positive attitude.
